Why I Took A Social Media Break + How To Style a .74 Cent Blouse.

Lately, I’ve been focusing a lot on personal growth along with getting accustomed to being back in NOLA. While on this personal growth journey, this is what I’ve been up to:

Just curious, is it me or do you all realize it’s a lot of information/distractions out there? I mean I love all the info such as what to do & the how to’s etc., but lately, I find myself pulling back and just doing me. I had to unsubscribe from a few emails because I felt myself going into information overload. I deleted the Periscope app from my phone because I was getting way too many alerts and each time one of my favorites would get on I would join in too. However, I was getting off track with my goals and deadlines I had set for that particular day. I noticed I was wasting a lot of time on social media mainly Instagram and although it’s how I grow my business, personally I just needed a break. I needed a break from waking up checking my Instagram, throughout the day, checking my Instagram & before bed, checking my Instagram. I just had to tell myself that it’s not that serious. I needed to focus on my next move, transitioning into a new season and just living in the moment. Now, I’m waking up and centering my thoughts, thinking about how I can grow my brand, who can I help in business & what I can do today that my future self would be proud of instead of overwhelming myself with tips and advice from the “experts.”

Sometimes, pulling away from social media could be a good thing especially since we all know it’s not going anywhere.  I made a list of a few things I would like to focus on more. One is this blog; I started blogging about 6 years ago and to me, I feel as if I should be further than I am. While on this Instagram break, I realized what’s the main problem and that is: I am not consistent with posting blog posts as I am on social media. I had this blog before Instagram was created and I had to ask myself, why are you neglecting your first love? There’s no excuse at all. NONE would be good enough! All I could do is learn from the past and work on becoming better. I have everything I need to grow my brand, my blog and my social media presence I just need to take it seriously and do the work. Taking this time away from Instagram made me take a hard look at myself, my brand, my business, and my goals and although I’m not where I want to be, I am definitely on my way.

Now on to what I’m wearing because let’s be real here, this is what you came here for! So without further ado, here it is:

I am wearing a leopard vintage top that I scored at a local thrift store for 75% off $2.95 so I paid a sweet .74 cents. Talk about a happy shopper!! This is one of those tops where you can remix it and dress it up or down.  You’ll definitely see this one in rotation on the blog. I paired it with a tan pencil skirt purchased from F-21 & I believe it was about $20. I completed my look with gold accessories: a gold choker, rings, watch/bracelets, clutch, and minimalist sandals. And of course, no look is ever complete without hair and makeup. A few days ago I got my hair braided and I must say, this is one of my favorite hairstyles. I’ve received more compliments on this style more than any other braids I’ve worn. The thing I love most about this style is the fact that it’s a cool hairstyle for these hot summer days. I don’t have to worry about lots of hair down my back and it’s off my face. I love a hairstyle that shows more of my face. This is one of my top 5 braiding styles. On my lips, I’m wearing a matte red lipstick purchased from a local beauty store.

I wore this look to church but it’s also a great style to wear to a fancy brunch.

You can have anything you want in life if you dress for it. –Edith Head

Do you believe this saying? I mean do you really believe that you can have ANYTHING you want in life if you dress for it? This quote doesn’t mean you can’t have what you want if you don’t dress for it, it’s simply implying that when you dress the part you’re much more confident and in term can help you get what you want in life.

Studies have shown when you look good, you feel good, you’re happier, you’re much more inspired and confident. For those reasons alone you should always put an extra effort into your appearance. For some people getting dressed and creating stylish looks comes easily, for others it doesn’t, and that’s okay. That’s what I’m here for!

Tip: Whatever you’re wearing, wear it because it’s the right fit for your body type and it’s something you feel confident in.

If you’re having trouble with putting an entire look together, start with what you love wearing most. For example, if you love to wear blazers, here’s a list of ways you can style it differently: You can wear it like I’m doing here with an ankle length pencil skirt, with a pair of jeans or with a pair of shorts for a classic chic style. The styling options are unlimited. Start off by wearing that one key piece that works for you and then you can build from there.

Like I always say, it’s totally okay to admire and be inspired by someone else’s style, but always include your personal style into your look. It’s what’s going to set you apart and it’s what makes you uniquely you.

This is a look that’s apart of my personal style because it’s classy. If you haven’t already, be sure to read the post about finding your personal style, here.

Casual Style On Hollywood Blvd.

When you think of casual style, what’s the first item that comes to mind?

For me, the first item would be a pair of pants next, the shoe style and lastly, the top.  This is usually how I get dressed. I must first figure out which bottom I’d like to wear first.

When you think of casual style, what’s the first item that comes to mind?

For me, I must figure out which bottom I’d like to wear first. Next, I would focus on the style of shoe and lastly, the top.  This is usually how I get dressed.

Before moving to L.A., I didn’t realize how laid back and casual the style is here. I believe because of the award shows and television shows that are taped here, people automatically assume it’s full out glamour all the time and it’s not that at all.

A lot of individuals has this misconception about L.A. but you really don’t know much about it until you move here. There are a lot of stylish people here but the majority of the time you’ll see people dressed very casually, wearing a t-shirt & jeans with flats and you can’t forget a pair of sunglasses. The vibe is very mellow, free spirited and laid back, which fits perfectly with the clothing style.

Style Tip: Wearing heels doesn’t necessarily mean you’re dressed up and flats don’t mean you’re dressed down.

Everyone has his or her own version of what casual style looks like, and since style is subjective, no one is ever wrong.

This is my casual style simply walking across the street on Hollywood Blvd. I’m wearing a leather crop top from H&M & a pair of high-waisted pants from Forever 21. I completed my look with nude pumps from Lola Shoetique and of course sunglasses because hey, I do live in L.A. and it completes my casual style.

What’s your casual style? Remember the Style Tip: Wearing heels doesn’t necessarily mean you’re dressed up and flats don’t mean you’re dressed down.

Always include your personal style in everything you wear. Only wear items that make you feel and look beautiful.

Every woman has a pair of favorite jeans that she loves to wear with just about everything. It’s the pair that fits her just right and highlights all her curves.  Mines are the high-waisted stretch skinny jeans from H&M.

Every woman has a pair of favorite jeans that she loves to wear with just about everything. It’s the pair that fits her just right and highlights all her curves.  Mines are the high-waisted stretch skinny jeans from H&M.

Usually, when I buy jeans, I have to take them to the tailor to get them altered at the bottom because I don’t like any extra slack in my jeans but, with these, they fit perfectly at the ankle. Reason number one why they’re my favorite jeans.

Another reason why I LOVE these jeans is because of the price. I caught them on sale for only $7.00 so I bought a total of 3. This color and the blue denim wash was the only two that were on sale. They didn’t come with the slits on the knees I created those myself. With the denim blue style, I have a slit and non-slit pair. I wanted to get one more in this wash since I knew I was going to slit them at the knee but these were the last pair in my size (25).

Finding the right jeans that fit your body type doesn’t have to be expensive. As long as it fits your budget and body type that’s all that matters.

Since the wash is a smoke grey color, I decided to style it with a greyish black leather and tweed blazer also from H&M. Of course, I’ll show you plenty more ways you can wear both the jeans and the blazer. It’s important to maximize your pieces simply by styling them with other wardrobe staples. I completed my look with a burgundy fedora from Classy Closet and burgundy-structured handbag from H&M.

Jeans are a must-have because you can dress them up with a blazer like I’m wearing here or dress them down with a t-shirt and sneakers. Like I always say, it’s not what you wear but how you wear it. If you’re like me and love to dress up while flying, this is a great airport look that you can also wear to dinner with friends.  Be sure to always incorporate your personal style into everything you wear. It’s what makes you, you!!!

How To Elevate Your Look With The Right Shoe

Last year, I went to an event and won a free pair of shoes from ShoeDazzle. I was so excited because I shop with ShoeDazzle all the time and to be chosen as the winner of a FREE pair made my heart smile!

I received a credit towards any pair of my choice and after browsing the site for a few days, I finally decided on the Betty by Madison Pumps.

I received a credit towards any pair of my choice and after browsing the site for a few days, I finally decided on the Betty by Madison Pumps. I love when a pair of shoes have that sexy wow factor and the oversized bow was it for me.

What woman wouldn’t love to receive free shoes especially from a brand she’s totally obsessed with? I mean you can’t beat having a mean pair of shoes in your closet for only $39.95. That’s like unheard of but that’s why I love Shoedazzle and Just Fab!!! I can look stylish without breaking the bank and for me, that’s important because I always believed that you don’t have to spend your entire savings just to look fabulous. It’s all about having confidence and investing in the right key pieces that can be worn at least three or more different ways. I’ll show you how to get the most out of a fabulous pair of $39.95 shoes.

Here’s how I styled the Betty by Madison pumps:

I kept my ensemble really simple with a black crop top from Forever 21 and a black midi pencil skirt from H&M. I also kept my look very on brand and classy by adding a three-layer pearl necklace and a few pearl bracelets. Very Sexy and Classy.

I completed my look with a red lip, pearl earrings, and simple gold midi rings.  I added lavender nail polish to my manicure because I always believe in a pop of color that’s not your traditional matchy-matchy look.

Tip: When styling a look, wear at least one statement item. In this case, my statement item is the Betty by Madison pumps.

The right shoe can definitely elevate your look. I always receive so many compliments every time I decide to pull these out. They are the sexiest pair of shoes I own. With the oversized bow and polka-dot floral print combine, this shoe is definitely an eye-catching style.

Ladies, there’s more in stock, shop: Shoedazzle.

What You Must Know When Finding Your Personal Style

When it comes to personal style, it’s all about knowing yourself, what items work for your body type, what colors look great on your skin tone and your lifestyle.

If you’re having trouble with finding your personal style, think about a person whose style you admire. Figure out what you love about their style and implement it into your personal style.

When it comes to personal style, it’s all about knowing yourself, what items work for your body type, what colors look great on your skin tone and your lifestyle.

If you’re having trouble finding your personal style, think about a person whose style you admire. Figure out what you love about their style and implement it into your personal style. It’s totally fine to be inspired by someone but never copy his or her entire look because that’s not being true to who you are.

Finding your personal style doesn’t have to be expensive. Here’s a complete price break down of my look:

Blue Blouse: $20 from H&M.

Flared Skirt: On sale for $9.99 at Forever 21.

Pumps: $28 Lola Shoetique

Handbag: $40 from H&M

Fur Jacket: On Sale for $40 from a boutique in New Orleans on Magazine St.

This entire look was less than $140. The secret is to invest in key pieces. You don’t have to spend a lot to look & feel fabulous.

Tip: Before purchasing an item you should be able to think of at least 3 different ways it can be worn.

The cream fur jacket can be worn dressed up like I’m wearing here or dressed down with a pair of jeans, pumps and a handbag. Flare skirt can be worn with a denim top and a pair of flats for more of a chill relaxed look & the blue blouse can go with just about any bottom from slacks to jeans. It’s all about remixing your pieces and maximizing your wardrobe.

This is a great look to wear to Sunday brunch after church or to a fashion show. The styling options are unlimited. Stay tuned to see how I elevated this look just by adding a few key pieces.
