How To Dress For Church

On Saturday nights, I find myself being very careful about which clothes I pick out for church the next day. I am very aware of the shape that I have so I intentionally pick out clothing that doesn’t draw too much attention to my figure. I am all for body positivity but I feel that there’s a time and place for everything and I just don’t believe that church is a place you should flaunt it all. (that’s just my opinion) But, if I’m being honest, I can’t say that every pencil skirt or pair of slacks that I pick out conceals my shape. That’s just hard to do. I’m a size 3-4 there’s no way I’d wear a size 6 skirt just to cover my shape in church, NO! I believe that’s unnecessary. I refuse to wear clothes that will swallow my petite figure, but what I will do is wear a blazer that comes down lower enough in the back, that way everything isn’t all out there screaming for unwanted attention.

A ruffled blouse and leather pencil skirt that comes below the knee. This style is perfect for church and work.

Within the last few weeks, these are the styles I wore to church. Even when I wear dresses, it comes to a certain length right above the knee or below but not ever too high. It’s all about respect. I know we’re living in a day in age where “if you got it flaunt it” but there’s a time and place for everything and church isn’t the place.

Blazer, lace crop top (which is actually see through but I’m wearing a black camisole underneath) and high waisted black slacks, black stockings and black pumps. Great outfit for church or a business meeting.

Now there’s nothing wrong with showing your stylish side but always do it with class. Everything should be done in moderation. If all you have to wear is bodycon dresses, then wear a longer blazer to take the attention off of your shape in the dress. The blazer should stop at least at by your hips. A blazer can help you with a lot of styles you may want to wear in church. Purchase one that’s universal that you can dress up or down and accessorize it differently each time with a brooch or pearls to give it a different look each time you wear decide to wear it.

Like I did with this blazer + bodycon dress. This is a great transitional outfit that can take you from church to brunch.

How To Travel In Style + Comfort

Traveling in style nowadays consists of me wearing flats while looking stylish and being comfortable. Comfortability has been my main priority when it comes to long flights around the world. I use to travel in high heels but haven’t been doing so as of lately because going through security and sometimes running to my gate causes for me to be comfy, comfy, comfy! From Abu Dhabi to Vancouver to Florida to Dallas and to DC, I’ve been dressing down and wearing comfortable shoes.

Here’s a style travel tip: If you must wear heels, carry a pair inside of your carry on luggage and when your flight lands, go to the ladies room and change into your heels.

Check out my styles below and let me know in the comment section how do you prefer to dress while traveling? Is it Comfy Chic or Dressed to the Tee?!

How To Dress While In Dubai

The dress code in Dubai only applies to public places such as theaters, markets, malls, supermarkets, and the public areas of hotels.

  • You may be given an abaya to wear when you visit an official government building or courts. This is a piece of clothing that covers what you are wearing. The general rule is that you should cover everything from your shoulders to your knees. Avoid showing cleavage, and watch clothing that’s too tight or see through. Women should not wear sleeveless garments.
  • For men, avoid wearing shorts and don’t wear swimwear outside of the pool or beach area. Men shouldn’t wear unbutton shirts or shorts that reveal their knees.

Dress correctly to enter a mosque. If you want to go inside a mosque, there are very strict rules for your entrance. You’ll be provided with clothing you can put over your clothes, called an Abaya for a woman and Kandourah for men. You will be asked to remove your shoes.

Here I am fully dressed without wearing an Abaya and my hair is covered as a sign of respect.

DSC_0431

  • Women must cover the hair and entire body. A scarf is a good idea when visiting a mosque. T-shirts are fine. Spaghetti strap tops aren’t a good idea but if you’re wearing one, be sure to bring a cardigan to cover your shoulders. Leggings can be worn under short dresses to cover your legs but don’t wear leggings as pants by itself.

Here I am standing in front of the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi. I didn’t go inside but if I would’ve, I’d have to cover my hair, remove my shoes and wear an Abaya over my dress. Each item is available outside of the mosque if you’re interested in going inside.

DSC_0546

  • Men don’t have to cover their hair but shouldn’t wear shorts or sleeveless shirts when entering a mosque.

  • The dress code is generally looser at nightclubs or bars. Malls have signs instructing customers to cover their shoulders and knees. Also, be aware that many upscale restaurants, especially those that sell alcohol, will require men to wear covered shoes and long trousers. For women, don’t wear anything that will reveal cleavage or thighs.

We went to an art museum as well as a safari dinner and I wore this dress which was considered appropriate because it’s loose fitting and covered my shoulders and knees.

The attire rules are very simple, just be sure you abide by them to show respect.

How To Take Your Basics from Cool to Casual to Classy!

What’s a wardrobe without basics? Everyone from celebs to fashion bloggers seem to have incorporated more basics in their wardrobe.  What I love about owning basic items is the fact that you can create more than one style just by switching up a few key pieces. It’s really easy to accessorize and remix with other styles to create more than one look. Below you’ll see how I went from a Cool Chic Vibe to Casual then Classy all while keeping my basics the same.

Below you’ll see how I went from a Cool Chic Vibe to Casual then Classy all while keeping my basics the same.

The Classy Closet Sunnies gives this style a cool vibe paired with a Kardashian by Bebe leopard clutch and a pair of fridge caramel open toe booties from Just Fab.

This is a great outfit to wear to a creative meeting.

A fresh pair of white chucks and a pop of color fedora is the perfect accessory to add to this casual style.

This is a great run to the mall outfit.

A pair of pumps can instantly take a crop top and a pair of jeans from casual to classy. It’s the ultimate classic shoe that’d never go out of style.

You can wear this outfit on a lunch date or pair it with a fedora (below) for more of a date night look.

H&M, Zara & Top Shop are a few places where you can find lots of quality basic items. You can also find some at Forever 21 but, I personally love to purchase from the above three stores because for a few extra dollars I notice the quality is better and my basics tend to last longer even after a few washes.

How to Style 1 Skirt, 2 ways: Sexy vs. Classy

Crop Tops They’re super sexy because it shows off the midriff section without giving too much. You can pair it with a midi length pencil skirt like I’m wearing here or with a pair of high-waisted skinny jeans like I wore on my Favorite Jeans post. Check it out here

Pussy Bow Blouse The ultimate Classy blouse. It’s been around since the 1940’s and was inspired by the Gibson Girls in the 1800’s. It’s the true definition of classy vintage. You can never go wrong with a Pussy Bow Blouse.

Pencil Skirt A Midi length skirt will always give you the Sexy and Classy look you’re going for.  Try one with spandex material like I’m wearing here to accentuate your curves.

Pearls One word, Classy. Contrary to “fashion rules” you can dress up a t-shirt and jeans with a pair of pearls and look effortlessly chic. Always keep a few different styles in your jewelry box to go with just about any occasion.

Pose Never take a pose for granted, it shows confidence. Always accentuate your best and be sure to wear styles that are flattering to your curves.

There’s a wardrobe staple that every woman must own and that’s a Little Black Dress. An LBD looks great on all body types and it’s very easy to accessorize. When shopping for a Little Black Dress you don’t have to spend a whole lot of money to look like a million bucks.

There’s a wardrobe staple that every woman must own, and that’s a Little Black Dress also known as (LBD). An LBD looks great on all body types and it’s very easy to accessorize. When shopping for a Little Black Dress you don’t have to spend a whole lot of money to look like a million bucks.

I purchased this one from Forever 21 for only $14.90 and it’s one of the best LBD’s I’ve ever owned. It’s a spandex material that fits my curves perfectly and the length is just right for my height.

LBD’S are so timeless it’s something you can wear within the next ten years and still look stylish. Along with it being a timeless piece, it’s also a style that would fit just about any occasion such as a job interview, funeral, wedding or date night.

One of the best things about an LBD is, you’re able to dress it up like I did here with pearls and an eye-catching shoe or you can dress it down with a pair of flats and a denim jacket. The styling options are unlimited. Just have fun and be sure to incorporate your personal style into your Little Black Dress.

Ladies, be sure to add a Little Black Dress to your wardrobe!

How To Elevate Your Look With The Right Shoe

Last year, I went to an event and won a free pair of shoes from ShoeDazzle. I was so excited because I shop with ShoeDazzle all the time and to be chosen as the winner of a FREE pair of shoes made my heart smile!

I received a credit towards any pair of my choice and after browsing the site for a few days, I finally decided on the Betty by Madison Pumps. I love when a pair of shoes have that sexy wow factor and the oversized bow was it for me.

What woman wouldn’t love to receive free shoes especially from a brand she’s totally obsessed with? I mean you can’t beat having a mean pair of shoes in your closet for only $39.95. That’s like unheard of but that’s why I love Shoedazzle and Just Fab!!! I can look stylish without breaking the bank and for me, that’s important because I always believed that you don’t have to spend your entire savings just to look fabulous. It’s all about having confidence and investing in the right key pieces that can be worn at least three or more different ways. I’ll show you how to get the most out of a fabulous pair of $39.95 shoes.

Here’s how I styled the Betty by Madison pumps:

I kept my ensemble really simple with a black crop top from Forever 21 and a black midi pencil skirt from H&M. I also kept my look very on brand and classy by adding a three-layer pearl necklace and a few pearl bracelets. Very Sexy and Classy.

I completed my look with a red lip, pearl earrings, and simple gold midi rings.  I added lavender nail polish to my manicure because I always believe in a pop of color that’s not your traditional matchy-matchy look.

Tip: When styling a look, wear at least one statement item. In this case, my statement item is the Betty by Madison pumps.

The right shoe can definitely elevate your look. I always receive so many compliments every time I decide to pull these out. They are the sexiest pair of shoes I own. With the oversized bow and polka-dot floral print combine, this shoe is definitely an eye-catching style.

Ladies, there’s more in stock, shop: Shoedazzle.

How To Style A Statement Necklace

Tip: Best way to style a statement necklace: Wear with solid colors so your necklace can make a statement. It’s your stand out accessory!

Styling black with pearls is definitely a classic and you can never go wrong with either.  Just research Coco Chanel!

This is a great look to wear to a holiday party because the sequin leggings scream “Heyyyyy I have arrived!!!” You can also wear this look to a creative business meeting because the cape blazer gives off a stylish business vibe. The lists of places are endless. Just make sure you own it by adding your personal style to complete the look. I wore this to church while visiting family in New Orleans but will definitely remix the blazer with a pencil skirt and add gold accessories while attending a fashion event here in Los Angeles. This is definitely a style you can wear to any type of stylish event.

I’ve always been on the fence about styling nude & black together but since I purchased these nude pumps, they’ve definitely been my go-to shoe. Therefore, I decided to give them a try with this look. After wearing this, I’m no longer on the fence about styling nude and black together but what really enhanced this style is the statement pearl and peach necklace. There’s so much power in a statement necklace. As you can see here, a statement necklace can take your look from 0 to 100! It ties everything in and gives it a complete color balance.

Speaking of color balance; my hair, lips, and handbag really flow and this wasn’t planned at all. This structured satchel handbag from H&M has been my go to because of the style and the color.  It’s so roomy with lots of compartments & it’s the perfect burgundy color that’s always stylish during the fall/winter seasons. Since I knew this bag was going to be in heavy rotation, I decided to purchase a lip color to match. I’m wearing Cabaret Blend by Milani. Now, on to my hair color, this wasn’t something planned at all. I was just over black hair and needed a vibrant color along with my signature haircut so I changed my hair color to burgundy and that’s how everything flowed into place. Sometimes when you know exactly what you want and don’t over think things, everything flows.

And to add the finishing touches, I’m wearing hot pink nails! I’m the type of woman who loves to wear random pops of color, especially on my nails. Very seldom will my nails and entire ensemble match. I enjoy stepping out of the box and not playing it safe when it comes to my personal style.

If you only had the cape blazer and sequin leggings to work with, how can you add your personal style to this look? How would you accessorize and what color balance would you try? Let me know under this picture on Instagram @ParisHatcher or Tweet me @ParisMHatcher. I’m excited to hear all your styling ideas!!

How To Know Your Personal Style.

Let’s talk about Personal Style. Do you know if you have one? What if someone asked you to describe your personal style in two words, what would you say? Would you stumble trying to find the right words to describe your style or would you simply be honest and say you don’t know? Well, for those of you who aren’t familiar with the term personal style here’s my personal definition:

Personal Style: Is knowing who you are & being confident by saying it loud & not being concerned with fitting in but rather standing out & making an individual name for yourself.

It’s all about getting to know yourself. Think about some of the things you wear that you feel really good about. How would you describe that style; Classy, Chic, or Edgy?

personal style

♥ A few of my favs 😉

My personal style is Sexy & Classy (hence the name of my blog) Sexy because I like to wear things that show off my curves and Classy because I don’t like to show too much. I prefer to leave a little mystery and I like for my skirts and dresses a certain length. I developed my personal style simply by knowing what I was comfortable with wearing and wearing it confidently. My style depends on my mood and where I’m going. Currently, I’m blogging from a coffee shop wearing an open grey cardigan with a white camisole underneath, snakeskin tights and a pair of gold flip-flops. I’m wearing simple accessories such as my Eiffel tower necklace, Michael Kors watch and stud earrings. This is just a simple coffee shop look. I knew I’d be here for a while and just wanted to go for a chic and comfortable look. So yes, at times your style can change depending on how you’re feeling. Sometimes I’m Sexy & Classy in a coffee shop if I’m doing something special before or afterward or if I’m just in the mood to feel glam and sip a Frappuccino.

How To Organize Your Dresser…Before & After

photo 1-28

I’m an always on the go type of person who’s really organized but lately, my dresser has been getting the short end of the stick when it comes to organization. However, immediately after I recovered from the flu I gave my dresser the much-needed attention it deserved. I got rid of some papers, purchased a bookshelf, and made room for my get well soon and just because flowers. Small changes really make a big difference. Now back to my organized life!

Whew! I bet that was way too much to take in at once, lol but now check out the after photos.

I’m in love with my new bookshelf. It’s not actually a bookshelf but I didn’t want to purchase just a typical wooden bookshelf. I need something different and unique that I can be proud of seeing on a daily basis so I picked this up and turned it into my very own glam bookshelf. I’ll do a post on a later date once it’s totally organized. Also, just in case you’re wondering what’s up with the clear vase with sheets of paper, that’s my blessings. That’s a later post in more detail as well.

Do you have any tips on how you keep your dresser organized? If so, please share.

Until next time. Stay organized!!
