Beauty 101: Polished Ponytails

Polished Ponytails

With a modicum of effort, a ponytail can be an elegant style. “This is rich-girl hair-thick, healthy, and very nonchalant,” says Paul. Get it in seven steps.

♥ On clean, damp hair, make a center part.

To give straight hair body and hold, saturate it with a volumizing spray, then brush it through; to help relax curls, rake a smoothing cream from roots to tips.

“Use a blow-dryer to make hair straight but full,” says Paul. Once it’s 80 percent dry, smooth the ends but coax in some wave with a round boar-bristle brush. If hair is curly, straighten it with a round mixed-bristle brush, leaving body on the ends.

With a flat brush, pull hair back into a low ponytail, and secure it with an elastic at either the nape of the neck or two inches above the hairline. Check your profile to see which works best for you.

Wrap inch wide section of the tail around a one-inch curling iron, starting at the ends and going up to the base of the ponytail. Brush it out completely “so there’s no trace if the iron but a natural-looking wave,” says Paul

Take a section of hair- about one eighth of an inch from the underside of the ponytail and mist it with hairspray to make it pliable. Wind it around the elastic several times to conceal the band, and lock it down with a hairpin.

Smooth flyways with a light shine serum, and mist hair all over with a flexible –half hairspray.
